Welcome back, old friend. 8 months ago

Apple put their hand in the air and admitted it was their bad, and have given me a replacement iPod, which is now chocka with my stuff again. I have so many podcasts to catch up on, I’m quite dizzy with anticipation.

Oh for crying out loud. 9 months ago

Back on the list again. Luckily, the iPod I bought to replace the one which caused me to add this goal in the first place is within warrantly – though for an expensive piece of equipment like this to break within eight months of purchase is far from lucky.

HA ordered and paid for this, so he is in possession of the receipts etc and I just have to wait for him to sort it out for me. It’s effectively out of my hands, which control-freak me doesn’t like at all.

On the plus side, I have had to start listening to the radio in the car, and have been rediscovering cheesy ‘80s pop through the power of an awful local radio station. This morning my drive to work was accompanied by Wake Me Up Before You Go-go by Wham. Aceness.

Hurrah! 20 months ago

It’s home, and working again, just in time for me to download the Flight of the Conchords audiobook for my train journey to London. And he fixed it for free, yay. What a nice man.

Once more, with feeling... 20 months ago

..where that feeling is an intense emotion of panic and disappointment.

Gah! It’s buggered again. I’ve emailed nice Mr Fix-It, and he sent me instructions on how to restore it, and said that if that doesn’t work, to send it back to him and if it’s the same fault he’ll fix it for free.

I’m halfway through his instructions and my iPod is behaving very badly indeed. The computer is recognising it’s there, but iTunes won’t start either automatically or manually, so I can’t complete the restore. I’ll leave it for a while, and see if it catches up – my ‘puter is pretty geriatric now – but if it doesn’t, it’s back to the Post Office on Monday. Dammit. If he can’t fix it, or if it’s a different fault and will cost me, then I’ll probably just treat myself to a new one. It is ancient, anyway.

rather than getting my ipod fixed i should’ve just gotten a new one…..getting it fixed cost more than getting a new one would’ve!

It's back, and it's working fine. 2 years ago

I picked it up from the office yesterday. The lovely man who fixed it advised me to keep it fully charged using a mains charger, and said that if a similar fault occurs in the future he will fix it for nothing, which is nice.

It’s good to have it back. Now I need to remember how to use it and, as I pretty much don’t listen to music that often any more, figure out how to make podcasts work correctly on it.

Where is it where is is where is it?! 2 years ago

Dammitdammitdammit, he said he’d post it to me on Wednesday, and didn’t get around to it, then Friday, and it’s not here. Aaaaargh, I want it back. I hope he didn’t post it registered post on Friday to my work as there won’t have been anyone there to sign for it. Actually, I hope he didn’t post it registered on Friday to home, as if it arrives tomorrow there won’t be anyone here to sign for it then.

Gah!

Fixed! 2 years ago

I can barely believe it. In fact, I choose not to believe it till it’s back in my sweaty little mitts. The very friendly iPod repair man – who, incidentally, recognised a Bottom quote I threw into one of my emails, good chap – received my iPod this morning, and by 11am he had replaced the battery and given the hard drive a deep scan, whatever that means. He says it’s 100% good with no bad sectors – again, whatever that means. Tonight he’ll charge it, he’ll post it in the morning, and I should have it back by Thursday. Whoo! £55 hopefully well spent. I just can’t wait to have my entire music and podcast collection on hand wherever I go again.

Oh thank the lord! 2 years ago

The man is back! I’ve been regularly stalking checking his activity, and he left a note a while back on his page to say he was seriously ill. There was so little movement for ages that I was beginning to worry he’d shuffled off his coil.

But he’s back! I emailed him, welcoming him back to good health, and though he’s not selling any repairs at present, he’s still happy to repair my iPod for (assuming what’s wrong with it is what he thinks is wrong with it) the bargain sum of £55, which is approximately what I was thinking of spending on a new Mp3 player if he didn’t turn up soon. I’ve been replacing the adaptor to use my phone for Mp3s approximately every three weeks at a fiver a pop, so I would have spent that money within a few months anyway.

Oh, man, I just can’t wait to have 20GB of iPod power back at my fingertips. Or eartips.

Where is he? The man on eBay who fixes iPods hasn’t been seen since his last sale at the end of July. I sent him a message and haven’t heard anything back. I only hope he’s on an extended holiday and hasn’t deserted me just when I’ve decided to use his services. How selfish.
