I’ve talked with a few professors at U of O but ony two have responded that they are willing to consider using me for an independant research prject. I’ll meet with both of them week after next. i’m excited and a bit nervous…. I’d really like to have the opportunity to be involved in research!
How to become a geologist
How I did it: I took the normal path of studying at Varsity and building friendships with my peers. I did a three year undergraduate course which taught a general applied geology which meant that we did every subject possible. :)
I did my honours in exploration geochemistry, it was a bit of a hard decision to choose either petroleum geology, exploration geochemistry or field geology (mining wasn't an option). But i'm glad I chose exploration because it helped me when deciding on my masters degree.
Lessons & tips: Stick it out! Its worth it. And don't think that you have only 3 field options when you graduate. There's more :)
Resources: Internet lol
Lots and lots of prescribed reading
Professors :)
