I only have to look at a picture of this place to go all starry eyed and wistful.
My God this place looks awesome.
I really really want to go.
The only thing that worries me – as with so many tourist attractions – is it over commercialised, over visited and a let down? Anyone know out there?
I say this because we were fotunate enough to climb the leaning Tower of Pisa in 1988 – the last year people were allowed up. It was AMAZING. BUT the town of Pisa itself was grotty. You couldnt walk 10 paces without being accosted by someone selling Leaning Tower ashtrays, keyrings and tea towels. What a shame
stay overnight at the ruins at the one hotel; then you can see the ruins in the early morning light
I walked around the corner and there was Machu Picchu and it brought tears to my eyes!
Nice.
I was supposed to have done this in September with one of my best friends in the whole world and his new bride. Things got complicated with work and life and I missed out. I will do this, and it won’t be terribly difficult with my job.
Leaving on the 7th of January. I will be visiting Macchu Picchu toward the latter part of my trip!!!
Oh the excitement!
I work in a Peruvian resaurant called Andina and I LOVE the photos on the wall, the food, the people who work there with me, and all the gorgeous culture. I’ve always wanted to go!
I saw some pictures when I was “stumbling” (www.stumbleupon.com), and it renewed my interest in going here. I don’t know why this is such a goal. I want to go a lot of places, but this seems like it would be magical. Maybe it’s because I think it won’t be very touristy. Probably it will be in some ways.

I regret not having gone when I lived in Chile, but it’s never to late, eh? My friend gave me a Peru guidebook so that we can plan a trip together—that’s inspiration!
