For the past two days I sat at my desk at 4pm with two more hours to go and I wondered where I’d find the energy to go on.
And the reason is, I once again took no real breaks.
Plus I’ll have to figure out how I can deal with the noise, though the noise bothering me so much might just be a symbol of the no-breaks effects.
I’ll try again tomorrow. Use the timer and take a real break. Away from the desk. And have some water while I’m at it. 4 months ago

I tried to reboot my take breaks project and failed again.
I forgot to take breaks and by 4pm I’m too tired to do real productive work and no break helps, no matter how long.
Solution: take breaks before I’m so tired I’d like to cry. Have more tea. Breathe. 4 months ago

I noticed that since my last vacation, I’ve not been taking my breaks – and as a result, I worked too much and was so tired by the end of the day!

So, time to get that goal up and running again.
I started today with 30 minutes of work and 5 minutes of rest.
I feel much better already! 8 months ago

I did it!
And I discovered the only thing helping me: The timer on my mobile phone.
I set it to one hour and when it beeps, I get up and take a break :-)
Without the timer, I look up 4 hours later and wonder where the time went.
It’s also a whole lot better for my social life at work – I talked to colleagues and team members so much more – we even set up a Euro challenge game :-)

I managed three breaks today – it was emergency all day long.
I started to give out numbers to people asking me to get things done :-)
I got the most urgent things done, and we had a short lunch break, too.
Tomorrow, I’ll use my timer again!

Today ended a three-day heavy working episode with a 7 hours acceptance test.
I managed two lunch breaks and two coffee breaktotal those three days total.
At least we were successful :-)
But it’s oooover and I’ll start again tomorrow!

I managed two breaks on more than 10 hours.
Not really great.
It helped a lot and I was feeling quite cheerful on leaving :-)
That was until I answered the phone for a work call after I got home.
That’s got to stop.

Today, I was overwhelmed with that many different requests and projects and problems I took my first break at 5pm.
Not good. Not good at all.
I’ve got a headache, I’m whiny and aggressive and snappy and I was court and unfair and I’m so tired.
Thinking about it, I had no headache yesterday.
Ok, back to the start. Tomorrow is a new day, I’ll try again.

I worked 10 hours and got 4 breaks and my lunch break in.
A new record :-)
Productivity was the same as on any Monday – but I left feeling not so dead tired and didn’t collapse on the couch once I got home.
So far, so good!

I learned in my management training class about the importance of breaks and about the health and energy issues that happen when you don’t take breaks.
And we took a test. Well, I scored badly in breaks and reloading and refreshing.
So I think I’ve found the explanation why I’m dead tired when I come home from work.
I’m so engrossed in my work that I forget to take breaks and often am too busy to go to the bathroom :-(
So, a new goal is created:
- I want to take a break every hour – this break should be 5min minimum.
- I have to get up from my desk during this break.
- No talking about the work I did before the break.
- Getting something to drink, going to the bathroom, stretching and walking are encouraged :-)
Wish me luck!
