I went to the liquor store and bought a bottle of Glenmorangie, set me back $50. Trying my first drink now, only poured about an ounce. First impression: numbness, then kind of burning, and finally some decent taste. Still a long way to go to the end of the glass, but not that bad. Seems do-able.

I also learned that some scotches are better than others. Had one at xmas that was really delightful.
I asked the boy to bring me a glass the other night, and he poured a lot more than I’m used to! But I finished it, and only scorched my throat once or twice.
The first time I tasted scotch (in Scotland), I gagged. After that, even the smell made me run for cover, like it was turpentine or something. But I’m gradually getting better. In January, I kept sniffing at a glass until I realized it smelled good—I was finally detecting the subtle smokey notes underneath the alcohol.
Then earlier this month I poured myself a tiny glass (seriously, more like a puddle) of scotch, and focused on consuming it VERY slowly. At first, all I could do was barely wet my lips with it, but by the end I was taking real sips. And when I finished it, I actually had a desire for more! So I think I have a good chance of conquering this one.
Blech!
Glen Livet and Glen Breton (Canadian single malt). I just don’t get it. I’m not giving up yet, but I’m moving this down the priority list.
