How to make a photography portfolio by stayhumble

"I set a deadline, got support, and got to work"

How I did it: I set time aside every day to go through old photos and developed a method of keeping tabs on the ones that I liked.  I had a deadline, so when it came (even though I felt there were more photos that I had to put in) I gave it one more look over and posted it online.

By the way, I'm a Wedding Photographer in Santa Barbara, so a portfolio is pretty much mandatory!

Lessons & tips: Tell everyone you know that you're working on your portfolio.  Get a website and get business cards with your address on it and start handing them out.  That will get you going even faster!

    Set a deadline for yourself and get your pictures together! 9 months ago

    Getting images together can be a long and difficult process – especially when you’re making sure they all look perfect. Pick a day on the calendar as your deadline and get to work! Meanwhile, find a good way to show this portfolio (print, web.. whatever) and start telling people that your portfolio will be available by such and such a date.

    It isn’t enough to just say I need to “take more photos”. There has to be a real target at the end and making a portfolio of photography about the area I live in has enough focus.

    i need to get on this. i am thinking i might change my major to photography or maybe minor in it if that is possible. does anyone know what colleges look for when reviewing a portfolio? is it just your original work or do they want to know how you can edit your photos and stuff? the dark room in my school isn’t that easy to get into, so i need to know ahead of time what to do.
