I want to learn how to cook shabu shabu

dad showed me once how to do it, but it seemed kinda complicated. i’m lazy of having all that work to cook it just for me, and also kinda afraid of doing for other people as it could end up tasting bad.
when i go home for holidays, i’ll ask him for some more lessons.
Finally got my delivery of Japanese ingredients from the asian supermarket in the city. Some of the packaging seems so strange…what looks like a hard plastic bottle feels like a water balloon to the touch and there are cute pictures of random smiling characters everywhere. Panko breadcrumbs, shichimi spice, mirin, dashi, pickled ginger and every type of noodle known to man. How exciting, I can’t wait to try a recipe!
I got the wagamama cookbook and dvd as a gift for my birthday and I can’t wait to recreate the foods I love from the restaurant. I know that it’s technically more fusion cuisine than authentic Japanese food but it’s a start, and I’ll definitely look into some genuine recipes once I’ve mastered the basics.
Two days ago I was here thinking about my laziness and how I’ve never made nothing to complete this goal. So I got up, came to the internet and tried to find some easy recipe that I could make without going out to the grocery store.
I decided for sunomono, a kind of cucumber salad that goes well with everything.
In the beginning I felt like it was terrible and that I had used too much vinegar. My mother said it was nice, so I put it on the fridge and waited. Next day in the morning, a surprise. It tasted almost as good as the last one I ate on a japanese meal.
Well. Far from a sushi, but it is definetely a start. :)
