db_sunshine is helping young people feel good about themselves
This one’s gonna have to wait till fall…I plan on taking a class at the Idaho State extension in Idaho Falls. Until then, I’m just messing around a lot on my own.
How I did it: I have taken many classes on photography and have gotten something different out of every one of them. I started in high school and am now a photo major in college. How do you do it? Sign up! Just be prepared to invest a lot of time and a bit of money. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I've done this twice now -- once as a community ed course and once as a community college class. Both times I didn't really LEARN anything -- I think it was more bad luck with instructors than that it's impossible to have a good photography class. But that was my experience, and I don't plan to try it again. Two disappointments is enough :) Read how I did it…

How I did it: There was a local class going on. I read about it in the newspaper. It was for manual photography. Usually, you'll get photo assignments and you'll have to bring in pictures you've taken. After a while, you'll start seeing everything through a camera lense. And photo-op will become a big part of your vocabulary. As will the sunny-16 rule : ) Read how I did it…
How I did it: M pictures (at home) were always good, and I enjoyed taking pictures. I searched the web for courses in my area and found one, called them and started! I learned how cameras work, the technical and artistic part of photography and took A LOT of pics. I love doing it, and there are still several other levels! Read how I did it…

How I did it: I just talked to people around and found out about a photography class in my town, which was basic digital photography. I took that course and learned a lot of new things about my camera. Then i also applied to a photography program in Harlem and I was accepted!! i have been attending for about two months now, and the program is 8 months long and I will get a portfolio in the end! I would like to improve my photography so that when I retire I can make at least part of my income from photography.
Everyone enjoys photos, why not take photos that simply look better than you usually can take.

I am visiting the local gallery to see what classes they offer.
Shuttermagic is off work for 2 days. Yahy!
it may not seem “needed” but I would like to take classes to learn more details. Would love to take photoshop classes too as well as some lighting techniques too.

If all works out as planned, I should be taking a beginner’s course next year :)

I have a digital camera – a decent enough one, really – but I want a digital SLR.
So, do I hold out for the SLR to take an appropriate class? Take a class for the digital? Rent an SLR for the class?
I’ve been procrastinating on this one forever simply because there is more serious technology out there than what I have and, when I do this, it will be because I’m ready to pursue photography as a proper sideline, rather than an occasional creative binge. But, I won’t be ready to do that until I take the class…. ahhhh. Dilemma
utopya needs to write her paper! FOR REAL!
I just enrolled in a portrait photography class. It’s only four weeks, and start in June, but as all basic courses are always full before I found out about them, this seemed a good alternative. There was also a class about making better holiday photos, which could be a good way to start, but as the class is in the evening, till 23., and I have to travel almost two hours, I think it won’t be a good idea. So for now, I’ll stick to this one class. On other option I’m still thinking about is a one week summer class, 5 days full-time photography. Might be fun, but I’m insecure. What if the other students don’t like me?
...with film photography. I’m in my 7th week of elementary black and white photography at my local JC. I love the sound of the shutter (not an audio recording like on my digital) I love rolling the film onto a reel (even though the anxiety of possibly messing up my film can be overwhelming) I love ambiance of the darkroom, the chemicals, the process, burning, dodging… I love it all. I’m addicted and if I have the money when I remodel my bathroom I would like it to make it (tastefully) double as a darkroom.

“Camera recommendations? Should I take a class with my old 35mm camera or jump in and get a good digital?”
