Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

sierrakJune 30 Hike around Lake Incline

Mr K and I took a short hike up in the Mt. Rose Wilderness this morning. It was a lovely little walk through the forest, and we could see Lake Tahoe at many points. This photo shows one view of the lake.

We are so lucky, there are so many amazing hikes that are just a few minutes away from our house! I’m glad we had a chance to get a couple of decent hikes in during June, and hope to get quite a few more in before the summer is over. 2 years ago

sue820Feel like I have definitely accomplished this goal.

I called every one of my relatives and friends this month, including my mother-in-law, and I spent a week with my mother and immediate family in the sunshine in Mexico. I, also, have spent time with most of my coworkers while going to each other’s yards to see what they’ve done(celebrating their achievements) while talking and having drinks. I’m savvy all the time, so that was no stretch. 2 years ago

sierrakHike to Five Lakes

Yesterday Mr. K and I hiked up a trail in the Granite Chief Wilderness to a destination called Five Lakes. (This area is just west of Tahoe City, California). This picture is of the second lake we encountered. It was beautiful up there. The hike was 2.5 miles each way, with almost 1000 feet elevation gain. Good hike, but my tricky knee started bothering me on the descent. 2 years ago

StephenBootcamp June 24-30 2012

In listening to my Get Things Done audio tapes, they reminded me that finishing small goals is no substitute for planning and making progress on the bigger goals. The past week helped me relax and enjoy Cory’s success, but I was a bit disappointed in myself for not making better use of my time (other than sleeping!)

Now that my sons are out of school, we’ve enjoyed the outdoors by going out to hike one day and playing basketball another day, but I do need to set aside time each day to make progress on my 43Things goals so they will not languish through the summer. Establishing that balance will be the focus of my bootcamp meditations this week.

sierrakWe Celebrated Father's Day....

with a small barbecue and a visit from the Darling Daughter. It always does seem like a whirlwind has touched down when she visits, and this time was no exception.

She’s moving out of her current place, but not getting a new one for a couple months while she travels this summer. So she brought up a whole carload of boxes for us to store.

We did have a nice dinner and visit, and all studied maps of Lake Tahoe together as that is where she is going first. She left his morning for a three-day hike, and we’re going to pick her up on Thursday afternoon. Our plan is to take a day hike of her own in the area where we are supposed to meet her.

We played some games before we went to bed. All in all, it was a really fun day. 2 years ago

sue820I have the family part of this covered for this goal and have made some progress on the friends part.

The trip to Mexico included DH, our son, our daughter, my mother, and DH’s sister and her husband. Called my father and younger brother yesterday, as it was Father’s Day and my niece’s birthday( I had, also, sent cards and presents to both that arrived in timely manners), and went out to dinner last night with DH, our son, and our daughter. Also, we’re having a round robin of sorts at work where we are all visiting each other’s homes to see our gardens, and it is bringing us all closer together as friends and coworkers. 2 years ago

sierrakJune Celebrations

I love celebrating summer, and also Father’s Day. (It seems that for us, graduations and weddings happened last month!).

My plans to celebrate summer are:

  • Cook several dinners on our new barbecue grill.
  • Enjoy the beauty of Lake Tahoe by taking several hikes.
  • Hopefully go to a baseball game.
  • Celebrate Father’s Day with Mr. K and my Darling Daughter. 2 years ago

StephenCelebrating life

June is the time of graduations, weddings and warm weather and I really felt my June Bootcamp goal had to include the happiness I feel for so many friends and family that are celebrating them like me. I don’t want to be so concerned with the minutiae that I don’t see the wonderful things that are happening all around me! 2 years ago
