i checked out the pimsleur language tapes from the library last week. i’ve done lesson 1, on to lesson 2. the lessons are VERY simple, the first concentrated on a few words and was very repetitive. great for someone for me. i love this! i can’t wait to try to speak the language with my family!!

So I just started writing Swedish to my friend. Jag kan skriva på svenska! By looking up every second word and checking if the stuff I want to write gets google results =D But hey, he only had to correct me a few times, and I’m learning words and grammar like that! Most of the time, my guesses are even right. After having read and listened to a certain amount of Swedish, I seem to have developed a feeling for how it should sound/look. Anyway I won’t put any effort into getting better at Swedish until I’m fluent in Finnish and decent in Icelandic, I’m having a little fun with it =)

i have plans to meet my cousin on skype to practice swedish. i told her that i’d like to talk about something useful, like the ways to introduce yourself into a conversation. including who i am, where i’m from, how old i am, that i am pursuing a ph.d, etc.
the next topic i’d like to talk to her about is directions around the city (very useful if you’re a tourist there).
we’ll start with the first round and see how it goes :)

In my ears, Swedish – the Stockholm accent in particular – is the most beautiful language. And, having German as a mother tongue, I find it very easy to learn. I’ve only really studied the very basics and the most important “false friends” for a few weeks some time ago. Since then I’ve been to Sweden a few times and I sometimes read Swedish online newspapers. I can understand what most texts are about, and I’ve recently started to understand quite a bit when people are talking. My active knowledge is still very limited, though. However, a good friend of mine is a native speaker and I’ll start chatting with him in Swedish now =)
It is hard to get to that level when one is not currently using it every day with other people. Tyvärr!
Stockholm is a beautiful city where I’d really love to live a bit longer than 3 months. I’ll probably do a student exchange here, I mean, if I can. I love this place so much.
I learn the most Swedish at my job. I’ve improved a lot during the 10 days I’ve worked, and expect to speak much better Swedish in about a month. In the mean time, I’m going to work on reading more in Swedish and meeting Swedish people… thursday, feminetiköl.
Oh and. Today I confused jävligt with väldigt and said “tack så jävligt mycket” when I meant to be saying “tack så väldigt mycket”. SHIT.
its just not that important to me anymore. maybe i can just refresh myself in spanish and pick up some other romance language bits and pieces, that would be sufficient to make me happy.
i kind of lost my motivation to do this after learning about 3 phrases but i’m working on building my motivation back up and learning some more.
ha det så bra
