I’m sure there are one or two things that will come up as I use my new laptop, but I feel like I’ve set up all the major stuff and I’ve shut down my old computer now.
Tomorrow, I need to create a backup for this machine and wrap up a couple of loose ends, and I should be able to mark this goal complete. 11 months ago
I got all my documents moved over. I got all my music transferred, but somehow screwed up the iTunes transfer and don’t have my playlists. That’s going to be more than minorly annoying for me because I use my playlists for my yoga classes. Need to figure out how to get that transferred over today.
I’m not sure what else I would need off the old laptop. Not much, I don’t think. I’m going to run through the files and programs over there today and see if I have forgotten anything that would need to be transferred over.
The only remaining thing then would be to go through all the various programs preloaded on the new laptop, register and set-up what I’ll use, and uninstall what I won’t use. This goal is getting close to done. 11 months ago
Still making slow but steady progress. Working on making sure my website and password information is current. Probably spent longer on that today than I meant to.
Still working on the file transfer in between doing other things. I have to sort through some stuff to see if it all needs to be kept, so that’s why it is taking longer than it otherwise would to just send everything over. 11 months ago
Millions of updates and restarts. Oh, Windows…
Working on getting all the programs I want up and running, and then will need to uninstall all the cr@p that Dell puts on their machines… Trying to get all the task bars, etc. configured the way I want them as well. Then there’s transferring files over. It’s kind of like moving house!
So far, I have many of the programs I use most set up: my Office suite, Skype, Dropbox, and my web browser. I gave Firefox another try, but it just doesn’t work that well for me and I’ve already gone back to Chrome. I figure Google already knows everything about me anyway. I might as well just sign over my life to them and be done with it. :) Still working on iTunes, and there are a million other tasks in line after that.
Seems like this used to be simpler but harder at the same time. I mean there are a lot of tools now to transfer everything over faster and easier than before (remember when you used to have to use floppy disks?), but there are more things to transfer and set up than there ever used to be. Anyway, I’m enjoying the speed with which my computer is executing the tasks. My old one is definitely ready to be retired. It just needs to hang in there until I get all the files off of it. 11 months ago
was getting online. Even with the password, it wasn’t working at first, but we finally power cycled the router and got me online. I’m typing this from my new laptop. :) It will take me a while to get everything set up the way I want it, but it will be fun. I’m pretty happy with my purchase so far. 11 months ago
I got my new laptop today. They came when I was out, but luckily they delivered to my neighbor. (But what if that problem neighbor was still living there?! That would have sucked…) Anyway, I have the new laptop and I’m happy with it so far, but I can’t get online because apparently I don’t have the right password saved for our internet. I have an old one that doesn’t work. I have to wait for C to come home and give me the password so I can get online…
It always takes time to set up a new computer the way you like it, but I think it will be really nice once I do it! My old laptop isn’t working well, so it will be great to have the new one, and it is lighter and more portable too. 11 months ago
