How I did it: I haven't gotten the results back yet. I told my GP I wanted a thyroid panel. I typed up a comprehensive list of my symptoms, but ultimately left it at home and stuck with the basics-- depression, anxiety, weight gain, thinned hair, low basal body temperature. He said that my reflexes were a little sluggish, and that it would actually be good if my thyroid was a little low, because it's easy to treat. He gave me a recommendation for an endo, and said that he would call me Friday if my tests were abnormal. No phone call, but I also made him promise to send me the results, because I want to compare them myself to the most recent standards.
I have been reading up on this, and I already have an idea of what tests to try next if these aren't conclusive. Thank goodness, this time the test was covered by insurance-- he actually sent me down the hall right away to have my blood taken, which I was not expecting. Read how I did it… 2 years ago

How I did it: I had to go to three doctors to get a full panel thyroid.
The first doctor was a stupid bitch who made me wait an hour and then she wouldn't even give me the full panel. She said,"You look fine, so we won't go through all that work." When it would be the lab techs working and not her! Then she scheduled me another apptment in the morning, and said in the morning that I wouldn't have to wait so long, and when I called to CANCEL my appointment that was at ten, the lady cancelling it told me that it was at ten forty five. Yeah, first doctor was a lying, dumb bitch.
Second doctor my insurance wouldnt cover so they wanted to do a check up on me, make me pay about a hundred bucks for it, and then get my thyroid tested by someone else if there were any concerns. I said no to that joke. The receptionist herself lied to me as well, because when I tried to schedule my apptment she said if the patient has any concerns the doctor will address them, and when I actually came there, she said if the doctor finds ANYTHING WRONG he'll recommend you to someone else to give you the test.
Third doctor people actually gave me a full panel. Didn't need a physical to give to these people either.
I knew that I may not even pass any of the numbers, BUT I wanted to know if I was heading there, because I am trying to lose weight, and I don't want to be kicking a wall, if I am heading in the direction of a disease. I would like to know if I am heading in that direction or not, so I don't beat myself up about not losing weight as quickly as I could. Read how I did it… 3 years ago

Iodine helps with the thyroid. Lots of people in America are lacking it, but most people in Europe aren’t. We used to have Iodine in our American bread, but the government replaced it with some ingredient that starts with a b that slows down the thyroid. Wonder why Americans are getting so fat? Hint: It’s not because we’re lazy and eat too much. Those factors play a role too, but also think about the stuff that is in what we consume/drink. Flouride is in our drinking water, which slows down the thyroid, and soy, which is found in other products also is not good for the thyroid. 3 years ago

My mom has hypothyroidism, and lately I’ve been gaining weight like crazy, so I’m wondering if I have what she has or if I have hyperthyroidism, because ten percent of people with hyperthyroidsm gain weight. I’m going to get a full thyroid panel done after school is over for the semester. 3 years ago

The results came back the other day. My friend was wrong – I do not have any thyroid problems. I think my lack of sleep is just stress, and I am still hypoglycemic, most likely due to a hormonal imbalance.
It’s good to know, anyway. 3 years ago

Now I just have to wait for the results, which should show up in the mail in a couple of days. 3 years ago

is convinced that I have hyperthyroidism. It would explain:
my irregular heart beat
constant hunger
mood swings
anxiety
poor regulation of body temperature
barley intolerance
premature grey hair
joint pain
insomnia
and sluggishness
edit: add dizziness
and faintiness
Half of these symptoms I have long credited to hypoglycemia. I could have hypoglycemia caused by all the wonky things my body may do with a weird thyroid, or have mistaken hyperthyroidism for hypoglycemia, or not have any thyroid problems at all. There’s only one way to find out. 3 years ago

Had an appointment to get this tested today. She agreed that it sounded like a thyroid thing.

I had severe hyperthyroidism. If I hadn’t gotten it checked earlier I could have lost years off my life. Definitely take the time to get it checked. 3 years ago

I didn’t even know there was a such thing as postpartum thyroiditis. If I did have that it would explain a lot. 3 years ago

and… it was totally normal. So these symptoms must be due to something else. 4 years ago

I have found since I have started taking a dietary supplement for thyroid support that I’m shedding weight fairly quickly. I’ve been taking the supplement since Sunday night, and pants that used to cut me in half like a sausage casing just slipped right on today. I havne’t weighed myself yet. I actually and not going to weigh myself until I’ve finished the first bottle of supplements because I want to use them as a control. 5 years ago
