How to go around the world by ruthready

"The most important thing I've done in my life."

How I did it: I've been around the world twice.  Being an American, the thought of doing this never occurred to me until I meet an Australian friend who was on a year long sabbatical.  I immediately started saving my money.  I was just out of college and lucky enough to have parents willing to let me live with them rent-free.  A year later at the age of 24, I bought an around-the-world ticket and was off on a solo 6-month adventure.  I started in New Zealand and went on to Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and central Europe.  I had always been very shy, but the sight of a young woman traveling alone brought out the friendliness in others and I meet many kind people and had great adventures.  Seven years later I repeated the trip, this time going with my partner and moving in the opposite direction by starting in Europe.  We were away for nearly one year.

Lessons & tips: Around-the-world tickets are the way to go, and aren't that much more expensive than they were 10 years ago.  I actually found better deals out of the London bucket shops, and bought a one-way ticket to London with the around-the-world ticket starting there.  If traveling as a pair in Europe, I would consider camping - it will be about half the price of staying in hostels for two people.  Of course, these days couchsurfing is also a pretty good option and a good way to meet people.

    I had been in Lao at 2006 when I work in Fsoft Hanoi.
    Last year , I went to Cambodia with Jacic team.
    This year ( 2009), I came back to Cambodia and take bus to Bangkok of ThaiLand.
    It was very nice trip.
    I love the life.

    Around the world 4 months ago

    I want to go around the world. Of course, who doesnt. But I want to go around the world by visiting alot of interesting thing on my way.

    for example; Angel Falls in Venezuela, machu pitchu in Peru, Mount Everest, Amazon Jungle, The Nil river.

    I’m trying to find a route that will take me to all the awesome places in the world, and also going around the world. I’m also planing on leaving for a long while. Around a year or hopefully more.

    The interesting thing about my adventure is, I’m not planing on bringing money with me. I will eather bike or find my way’s.

    I’ve been training for a couple years to get my body in top shape for this adventure.

    hahaha…very ambitious…but I really want to go around the world…that’s definitely no JOKE…

    so far, I’ve been to HongKong and to Bangkok, Thailand…
    all paid for by my parents…

    I hope someday I’ll be able to pay for my trips… it would be so much cooler…to have the money to pay for my own trips and trips that includes my family…right??? hahaha…
