I would burn through our checking account pretty quickly, staying in motels. And with my psychic sensitivities, cheap motels are a bad bargain.

So I’d have to camp. I wouldn’t mind camping, except all that extra weight of carrying a sleeping bag and tent. And it probably isn’t safe, because I’m female. It sucks that we live in a place where women have to fear sexual assault.

If I went north…Vancouver is two days. I know the by-ways of BC pretty well now from touring so many times…

It comes back to – not practical. What do I do after riding and riding and riding? I come home. And nothing has really changed, or has gotten worse in my absence. It is no solution to anything. 10 months ago

that would take me at least 6 days to ride. And what would I do from there? Hundreds of miles across the prairie, to go where, exactly?

Or to do my long-time goal of riding to San Francisco. Well. But then it wouldn’t be to simply ride and ride and ride. It would be to Accomplish a Goal. And the desire to run away is precisely the opposite of Goal Accomplishment.

Denver’s three times the distance. At least I would end up at my brother’s place when I was done. But the question would remain – then what?

To just get on the bike and ride and ride and ride – this is a fantasy. 10 months ago
