...those precious 8 days i spent in Venice in 2005. I hope i can make some sort of overseas trip happen in the next 12 mos….
HOWEVER, The Gondola Ride. I think this must be THE rite of passage for anyone who travels to Venice. Unfortunately, the Gondola operators know this, and the prices for a 20min ride are Atrocious. If i remember correctly, a standard gondola was 65 euros, which was approx $97 US dollars. Fortunately, i was with a large student tour, so by having 5-6 of us in one boat, we were able to divy up the cost to about 10 euros each…
The much more elaborate “deluxe” Gondolas, suitable for two, were easily twice as expensive…..only worth if you’re on your Honeymoon (imho).
One Tip: take your Gondola ride during the heat of the day. We went at sunset, a la picturesque. But once the sun goes down, those back canals get Really chilly, and took away from the charm of the experience. Still, we had one of the more fun Godoliers, who sang and made jokes throughout….and i wouldnt trade 1 second of my time in Venice for anything…
:D
