I went to The Art Institute of Portland, then College of Southern Idaho. Between the two, i accumulated 14,000 dollars in student loans, I’ve managed to Pay off two, am down to 10,000 i think. I pay around 160 a month, and within 24 years i should have it payed off. I feel like they really take advantage. My parents always said I should never get a credit card, because a few times they had some problems with them. So because of that and I didnt have a co signer, they were able to give me a high interest rate. They told me after i got a bachelors at the art institute they said I would eventually spend 300,000 in all. But I didnt get this letter until I was almost done with my first semester. Tuition cost around 75,000 dollars. I decided I would drop out, i couldnt justify spending that much. I tried going to a community college, but it was hard to be there, when i knew where i should be. So I decided to wait until im 24, and my financial aid will be based off my income rather than my parents. My boyfriend of 2 years, has pretty much made it clear that he doesnt want to move out of state, but there are no art schools in Idaho. So im crossing my fingers that by then the situation will be different, and he might be more compromising. Until then, I’m just making payments on my loan, living day to day.

We made our first $600 payment toward the student loan. Going down?

We’re now ready to start working on this goal. Any extra money we have left over will be shoveled toward this debt. Outside of our mortgage this is the only other debt we carry right now. Currently we have a little over $6K to pay off. My goal is by the end of the year this will be gone but the sooner the better. I want at the VERY least to pay $600 a month on this goal. This will mean that we’ll need to really watch our budget and spending and I’m proud to say this so far this month we’ve done excellent!

I have over $5,000 left on my student loans we are itching to get rid of. Once our savings is at a comfortable size and we’ve opened that IRA for Terri, this is our next goal to throw as much money at as possible. I want it gone by the end of the year.

...this is such a long time away, and requires intense budget control for so long! But it will be worth it in the long run- just have to keep focused

last buy not least 2 years ago

This is the last of my debt that I will pay off, but when I do….:) I would like to be done paying this off by the end of 2007 but really I think it will be more like mid 2008. I will have to do the math to have a better plan
