I’m at the point where I feel sufficiently guilty for letting other people drive. I’m celebrating this, somewhat, because it says to me that somewhere along the line I made the transition from being terrified of driving to just finding it an irritating chore (and consequently, I would feel guilty because somewhere inside me I’ve concluded that I’m perfectly capable of driving myself and am just being a pest) Whoo! It’s nice when guilt is a GOOD sign! 10 months ago
I have what might be a phobia of driving. I CAN drive, legally, but I absolutely DETEST doing it, and I tense up so much right now behind the wheel that I feel like throwing up whenever I reach my destination. This seems to be involuntary, but I know that I am not alone in despising this “rite of passage” (a lot more people in my generation avoid driving than was previously thought?) People say that this will go away with practice, but I don’t practice… Right now, perhaps to their discredit, people in my life have enabled me to avoid driving by offering me rides. Very nice of them, I love them for it, but I probably can’t go on living like this forever, and so I’m trying to achieve autonomy in driving.
However long that takes. 10 months ago
