ellimille thinking dreaming doing
I’m looking at my wish list which I’ve written about three years ago. It is funny how my dreams are still very much the same but I’ve also have come a long away.
For example three years ago I said I’ve never been in NYC. But year and half ago I did trip to the Big Apple. I spent there only 10 days but it felt so much like home. Even later I’ve applied a scholarship for studies in the States. I didn’t get it yet. I was in the 2nd replacement place. But I know for sure that some day I’ll be living in NYC and that day is getting closer day by day.

I lived in New York already. In harlem. But I moved so my goal is to move back. It’s REALLY exciting & There is Alot to do.
Three years later and I am still in Washington, DC. I want to live in NY!!!!!!!! :)
Although I’ve never been, it’s one of those places I’ve always dreamed of living. I don’t think I’d settle down there but I want to experience the fast paced, highly populated excitement that it has to offer. I want to say “I live in New York”...just once.
i want to see as much of the world as possible, but new york is one of the biggest on my list… so it makes my 43
goodmate boring weekend.. trying to do something new exciting adventurous

I want, i want, I want to live in New York, it’s my wish to go there and live there for at least one year, though i’m moving to Marseille where is a nice place as well, but New York will always be my dream. Just watched Will and Grace again, I miss them and New York.

There’s a very persistent urban legend that states that the late, great writer Kurt Vonnegut gave a speech to the ‘97 MIT graduating class about wearing sunscreen as their best long-term goal (you can look at a discussion of this hoax, that took me in and even fooled his wife, here: http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/dubiousquotes/a/vonnegut.htm)
Anyway, the (very witty) speech states,
“Live in New York once, but leave before it makes you hard.
Live in California once, but leave before it makes you soft.”
I am still waiting for my softening (I love San Diego and hope one day I’ll be able to live there at least briefly) but I’ve done my time in New York. It was great living there in the puerilist 80’s! I loved it but would not go back to it. The good things about it probably go without saying, but for me personally my love for it was partially rooted in my lack of self-esteem and commitment or connectedness with others—having them around me in great numbers, busy and distracting, soothed my alienation and pain. However, eventually even I cracked (I think it was the day I was footsore, cold and tired and I was not allowed to sit at a table in the restaurant where I was meeting a friend, because “only complete parties can be seated…”) The need to be vigilant (I’m not just talking about crime but avoiding all kinds of obstacles…stepping in dog poop, etc…that comes with living at a fast pace), and the need to tolerate bustle and jostle, was more than my bruised spirit could handle in the long term.
I try to go back as often as I can. Central Park, the museum of the American Indian, Sapphire Club, SoHo and TriBeCa (even if now glinting with McDonald’s and Starbucks signs) are wonderful. Thank you, New York (New Yorkers) for the great memories!
