I went on an 11 hour road trip to Massachusetts JUST to go whale watching in August. It was worth the time, travel, and money! It was such an awesome experience, I will definitely do it again and again.
If you are ever near the coast of Massachusetts, head out to Gloucester during the spring/summer months. Whale sightings are pretty much guarenteed around there since many baleen whales come to feed at the stellwagen bank right off the coast.

I went out of Santa Barbara a few years back. I’ll never forget all the dolphins (tons!) swimming with the boat jumping in front of it and all around it, playing. And when you actually see the whales, how enormous yet majestic they are, you can appreciate life all that much more.

Anyone in New Zealand should take the time to make their way to the South Island and get on the Whale Watch Cruise at Kaikora. You’ll never forget it :)

I went whale watching in New Zealand. It was great fun!
We saw 5. They were HUGE. There was also a group of dolphins that swam along side the boat. It was a beautiful experience.

A number of charter boat companies run whale watching cruises and you can find such charters operating out of Seattle and from various other ports around Puget Sound.
This is something I want to do this year.
