Write a letter to a president and get a response

I once wrote a letter to Jimmy Carter and sent him a box of flies that I had tied myself (for fly fishing). I also invited him to go fly fishing with me sometime if he ever visited NJ.

To my complete and total astonishment, about 6 weeks later, I got a large padded envelope in the mail. Mr. Carter had not only graceously mailed me a “Thank you” note (which he obviously typed himself), but he also included an autographed copy of his book of hunting and fishing stories.

It is something I will hold onto for the rest of my life and pass down to my children. (If only I can remember where on earth I put it—doh!)
