Trauma_JunkieAll done

I actually DO not recommend the packing party route, unless you are going to have a girl scout or cub scout troop do it. I found it was more fun to do it alone myself and have the tracking number…we’ll see what I do next year! 4 months ago

Trauma_Junkieone little tiny problem

In agreeing to do this with my friend it seems he still has a crush on me from years ago. yes we are both single. I’m totally uninterested in him. COmpletely. THere are many facets of his personality that just kind of gross me out. THis week he sent me a necklace…and I had to chnge all of my Facebook setting because he would not stop posting junk on my wall, or pulling up Chat every time it looked like I was on line. I mean My goodness, it was invasive. SO…I regret this part of things, Hopefully he will get the point. Saying, “I’m just not that into you” seems to have no effect. But anyone Knitterly who wants to make us a pair of mittens a hand puppet or a hat???? 9 months ago

Trauma_JunkieSHoebox drives

Operation Christmas Child is a project that I enjoy. Essentially one collects small items that fit in a shoebox. Then one fills a shoebox with basics- soap, toothbrushes, washcloth, school supplies (pencils, erasers small notebooks) and fun stuff! Jumpropes, crayons, small cars and dolls, wrapped hard candies. One can write a note, or include a photo. THese boxes are distributed to multiple countries.
I like that it is personal…OCC says they do not “redistribute items” but will add items if the box seems “light” Some kids have gotten boxes with 7 toothbrushes…and immediately stated a use for each of the brushes…so you never know.

I like the idea of being able to let a child know that I at least feel that they are a gift in this world and their very existence is extremely important.

I have a friend who shares this opinion. Last year he did 10 boxes. I did 3. THis year, we have decided to do 50 if possible. We are planning a packing party, which will include the running of a half marathon for me as well to help to raise some money.

Want to join me? Jim and I would love cash donations, but…I am really wanting to find someone who can knit and wants to make hand puppets, hats or mittens. (Regs do not allow homemade stuffed toys but puppets are good) If you live in the Raleifh area…come and join us for the packing, it’s going to be fun! 9 months ago
