I’m still doing the blues/rock band thing. We play a mix of originals and covers, mostly originals. It’s going well, although we could probably use more frequent rehearsals. Once a week isn’t enough. I’m about to buy a new amplifier which I’m looking forward to purchasing. I’ve been using a tiny practice amp which is loud enough for rehearsals, but isn’t giving me that big sound I NEED. So it’s off to the guitar shop, and I can’t wait!

I met with a bassist and it just wasn’t happening…I don’t have the energy at the moment to put together a band (things are crazy right now; busily planning for the 30th Annual Atlanta Film Festival, June 9-17), so I decided to join a pre-existing group instead. Just auditioned for a blues/rock group last weekend and have our first rehearsal this Thursday. So I’m excited about that. It’s a mix of originals and covers, which works fine for me. Lots of improvisation too.

I placed an ad in Creative Loafing over the weekend, also Atlanta Community Musician. I heard back from one person on the communitymusician website, have not yet heard back from Creative Loafing.

UPDATE: I’ve now heard from 3 people from the free ad…left a msg for Creative Loafing today. Setup a jam session with a keyboardist for next Saturday. Meeting up with another guitarist this weekend. Woohoo!

and here's why... 2 years ago

I’ve always been in OTHER people’s bands, playing covers, playing originals with bitchy singers, and I want to do my own thing for once. I have a vision. I want this to be musically challenging, instrumental, an amalgam of music genres, certainly not radio-friendly.

Musicians can be a flakey bunch, so finding the reliable ones can be a challenge. I guess I can start by placing an ad in both Creative Loafing and Craigslist and see where it takes me.

And if anyone knows talented, experienced musicians in the Atlanta area (intown only) that might be interested in this sorta thing, please send them my way. I’m looking for a drummer, bassist, keys, sax or trumpet, cello…and I’m open to anything out of the ordinary. Let’s get this party started.
