My other bike is more for touring; it’s light as a feather, it’s got skinny tires and the racing handlebars. That’s my fitness bike, my sporty bike, my weekend trip bike.
This new bike is for riding to work without getting all sweaty. This new bike will allow me to wear my regular clothes and my regular shoes. I’ll put on my helmet of course, along with my yellow vest (the better to see me, hello cars). I’ll go at a leisurely pace, hop off my bike, and go sit down at my fabric-covered cubicle. Just like that.

We cycled through Kreuzberg this Sunday and did some window shopping. The “Randonneur” bike by Fahrradmanufaktur looks great, but then, most bikes do in comparison to the one I currently use. T. is very excited about getting new bikes for both of us and wants to take me to a couple of shops on Tuesday. Hope the pressure to make a quick decision won’t build up. I worry about the question of what kind of gear to go for, and there’s also another problem: I like to ride without holding on, when at a more leisurely pace, and need a back pedal brake for that reason. T. told me they have become nearly extinct. Am a bit miffed.

It’s amazing; a Scott Voltage bike with cable disc brakes. It looks mean and it’s a fantastic quality bike. It’s worth shopping around for a bike, I got this one for £300, which was a v. good deal I think. It’s the kind of bike that will be good when I want to be riding around forest trails, but I’ll also be realistically able to ride it around town.
The only thing that worries me is that now I have a nice bike, the odds of it being stolen are much higher than with the knackered old thing I had previously! I have therefore got a big fat lock for it, the chain is almost as thick as my wrist (and v. heavy- but hey, I said I needed to get fit).
I love my new bike. I would be gutted if it got nicked. I can’t wait to go and ride it around some woodland trails soon.

just got it this morning, this beautiful first wonderful day of spring. I traded in my old one and upgraded to a lighter model. It is perfect for me, right on budget and best of all it PINK! Pink bell, pink frame and so wonderful.

Hm, it seems that a higher power is telling me that I need a new bike… the gears are shot, the brakes need tightening up, and now some complete muppet has decided to slash the tyres… I just don’t think I can be bothered to do the work on that bike that it would now need in order to be roadworthy again.
However, I hate walking around… So, bike shopping for me, soon! even though strictly speaking I should wait till I get a job so that I know I can really afford it.
