Stop whaling

Stop Whaling in Iceland 2 years ago

The Icelandic government has resumed its commercial whale hunt, allowing 39 whales to be killed – including nine endangered fin whales. Iceland has joined Norway as the only countries that openly defy the international ban on whaling.

The International Whaling Commission banned the practice in 1986 and Iceland has complied with the moratorium since 1989. In the last few years, Iceland has exploited a loophole that allows whaling for “scientific” purposes. But now, after 17 years of compliance, Iceland is blatantly ignoring international law and striking a devastating blow to a species that is already threatened and on the verge of extinction.
