Enter local group shows, visit local coffee shops and restaurants that have local art on the walls and see if you can hang yours. If there is a local Art Walk in your area – go and meet the artists and gallery owners. Ask questions.
My best resource has been my art instructors. I’ve asked a million questions about portfolio building, showing locally, juried shows etc.
You can’t be shy and you have to be confident about your work. You also have to have a thick skin and accept criticism graciously when it comes.

It’s tough getting into galleries. there are SO many artists out there that I’d imagine it’s tough for a gallery owner to decide….OR, you’re just not part of their clique. either way, it’s frustrating.
BUT, you can involve yourself in some other art-related endeavors, and make a name for yourself. There has to be something in your area, you just have to pound pavement, hang your stuff up in a local cafe, etc.. That was really the only way I was able to get recognized by galleries at all. As much as it sucks to say, If they don’t recognize your work beforehand, the chances of getting in are a bit slim.

I know why…it’s because i didn’t display them properly.
It’s okay. It stung a little bit…the rejection and…the fact that i lost 15 bucks.
Hey…when you’re a college student with a part time job…loosing 15 bucks hurts!

My art was displayed. But it was my whole class. I would love to have pieces at different areas. It just A: Scares me to death, and B: I don’t know if my work is good enough to be displayed. I mean, i think what i do is pretty good, but when i asked my drawing professor who decides if art work is good or not, and how does one know if one is good or not, he said that i probably wasn’t good.
ouch.
Well, He dosen’t know my work and he’s a prick.
Joking…kinda…
