The “lost” civilization, it would be a treat to visit their Inca trail and sleep under the stars at the Machu Pichu ruins.

have always loved history. The feeling that comes along with knowing that past presidents or lifes icons have stood in the exact spot where you are now standing. I can not imagine how amazing and strong that feeling would be at a place like Manchu Pechu. To walk where they walked, meditate where they worshiped, drink in where they lived, stand where they died and breathe where they bled.
I love the humility you are forced to feel at the very moment you realize how big the world is and how very very small I am. It puts life back in the proper perspective…
This is sort of a cheat for me, in terms of being a goal, as I’m off to do this in 3 weeks! Looking forward to that morning at 5 am when the sun is rising over the lost city. Sore legs from 3 days of hiking…should be amazing.
I hiked Macchu Picchu while visiting Peru and the Galapagos Islands with a tour company. The altitude and the high number of steep steps make the full hike demanding even for people in good shape. If you are an experienced backpacker and want the real experience defiantly DIY it and bypass the sherpas. The sherpas are awesome people and work really hard but personally I want to be self sufficient and carry my own gear. Seeing the sunrise over Macchu Picchu on the last day was awesome.
Lived in Buenos Aires and Santiago for 7 years and never made it to Macchu Picchu. Lots of stuff I’m dying to see in Latin America, and several I’m looking to see again with my family this time. Macchu Picchu is at the top of my list, with Easter Island, and the Galapagos Islands.
This is on my long term list, don’t expect to get to South America for extensive touring for at least 4-5 years.
Macchu Picchu is just such an amazing place and somewhere I’ve always wanted to visit.
