itsgottachange is putting my goals down

I have wanted to acheieve this since high school 15 months ago

I actually owned one last year and had to seel it due to lack of cash. But now that I am debt free I am saving up for another and will do anything it takes to learn to play this beautiful instrument

Just getting motivated to get started 2 years ago

I played the saxophone for a season as a kid. I didn’t practice at all, but I always thought it would be cool to play. Now, as a 31-year-old, I find that I really wish to pick it up again. I have no plan in place, but I’m planning on starting up again.

What’s the best way to get started? Should I buy a sax? Should I rent? Should I take a private lesson? Group lessons? Any thoughts?

done it, been there. it’s not as fun as i would hope so. it’s a very cool thing to be able to play sax. and i like the sound an all. but i just can’t stand, the fact that i have to wipe my drool after every practice. :P

I've been playing sax since I was 9 2 years ago

I’m sure I’m not the best but I can say with all honesty that it has been frustrating, rewarding and occasionally an absolutely amazing experience. I would say to all those learning: Do a little every day. This is more effective than doing a lot once in a while as it has largely to do with training muscles ( lips and diaphragm ). Practice long notes at first and try to make them get louder and softer.

One of the best things you can ever learn how to play... 3 years ago

Nothing can compare to pumping out Birdland on the top of your lungs, letting that sound radiate out from you, and knowing that the music is literally a piece of you. I’ve been playing for like 4-5 years and if I could recommend one thing it would be this.

one step closer to the goal 3 years ago

finally, i rent a saxophone for 3 months.
so, i don’t spend too much (buying new one) if i ended up giving up, but pay quite a lot to give up.

and, i’ve blown my first sound. still trying to get a perfect blow to the mouthpiece. man, it’s quite hard, not as simple as i thought.

preferred type? 3 years ago

I’ve heard the alto sax is easiest to start with, though i’d like to end up on tenor. any thoughts?
