Next year I will finish my undergraduate degree (BSc) in Psychology, after having taken a year out due to a chronic illness. In the meantime (and also after I graduate, of course), I will try to get some practical experience to develop more as a person and to build up my CV so that I can hopefully get onto a PhD in Clinical Psychology. I have already completed two 10-week workshops in Clinical Interviewing and Counselling, so I’m hoping that will be of some use. I’ve already been through counselling myself a couple of times, which I have learned (during my course and during the workshops) is crucial to becoming a good clinical psychologist or counsellor. (In fact, I’ve learned that most counsellors and clinical psychologists regularly continue to go through periods of counselling themselves). It’s a long hard road, and some people can be very discouraging, but I’m convinced this is what I want to do and that I can get there.
