Found a meetup group that meets on Mondays in Royal Oak. I went and thought it was pretty great. Took my girlfriend who is also learning, but she wasn’t comfortable trying. That wasn’t so great. I met some really interesting people though and look forward to going back. Oh, more details. Well, they try to only speak Spanish. There are novices and native speakers. People bring dictionaries and we meet at a coffee shop. It was like being in Quito.
People doing this are also doing these things:

Trying to work on this this summer (like every summer). Been looking through a textbook. Itunes not working out too well. Hard to find lessons that constantly update.
Pokiehl is Kibbons Slaf.
Currently studing rosetta stone cd 1 for latin american spanish. I’ve grown up and am currently still in central Texas so I’ve heard the language my whole life, would love to learn it and hold another language in my mind like English with such agility. I work at a Chinese restaurant where I speak in spanish with the cooks and they help me learn new words and phrases.
Good luck everyone studying spanish, its a great accomplishment to learn another language and its culture, listen to spanish music when driving (great tip for delivery drivers like myself), keep it up!
I have always loved the latin culture and I have wanted to learn to speak spanish since I was a child. I took classes in HS and College but still can’t speak the language. I will continue to try.
I’ve been speaking to my mom in Spanish quite often lately. I’m not the best, but just practicing it like it’s a normal thing and not “study time” really helps my mind. Incorporating little phrases by substituting them for English has helped substantially. Like, instead of saying, “I think so”, I say, “Creo que si”. I’ve been learning the imperfect tense and preterit. Also, present progressive and commands. It’s so fascinating. All I can say is that if you want to improve…just act like it’s a normal thing. Find someone that already speaks fluently and just talk about normal things. Not “Do you like cheese?” (unless you just watched “She’s the Man”)
sheilabeepers Is at a stand-still. . .
Not only speak it but read and write it also.
eso es todo
My professor once again neglects to assign us work and then tests us on the material she does not teach. I asked if I could skip class one Friday. She said yes because I have not missed class yet. I enjoyed my sleep-in. I do not enjoy her class. I do not want to learn about Mexican wrestling, Latin pop singers, celebrities, or eat fried plantains. I want to learn the language and learn about the culture beyond food and entertainment. Sure explain food and entertainment, but in moderation. And do not bring Dunkin Donuts Munchkins on the test date to sedate our frustrated and confused minds and distract us from our wrath towards you. I don’t know exactly how I am doing, what I am doing, where I stand, but I do know that I will be going for some extra help BECAUSE YOU DID NOT TEACH US THIS IN THE FIRST PLACE. If you hand out one more page of lyrics…
Better. Because I taught most of it to myself. Because I studied. Midterm is this week. I shall see how that goes.
I’ve been collecting children’s stories in Spanish. Lately, I’ve incorporated reading them into my morning routine. 5 minutes a day. I also found several podcasts in Itunes and have subscribed to a couple. These allow me a chance to practice while on my morning and evening commutes.
