I will work Sunday, Monday, Thursday, and Friday (no shift). I will work ten hours per day. My days off will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday. If I pick up a shift on my off day, I will try to compensate for it by taking another shiftless day as my off day.

take it easy !!!! 3 years ago

After finishing university and starting a job I discovered I was often fatigued on Friday evening after five days commuting so I decided ASAP to cut it back to four days.
It has made life so much more relaxed, so much time for everything. If I have to take a day off halfway the week I can work Fridays so I don’t cut my holiday. When I am tired on Thursday evening there are still two weekend evenings to do things !
And I don’t miss the money. Yhe fifth day is in the highest tax bracket anyway. My experience is that when you work four days life is cheaper because I have more time and energy to cook instead of going out to eat; I have more time to find cheaper clothes and other things on Friday when the shops are quiet, I can book cheaper flights on Friday or Monday.

I feel very fortunate to be able to do this. This is one of the greatest things I have done in 2005.

Hard to imagine going back 4 years ago

I’ve been working 4 days a week for a few years now and it’s hard to imagine going back. It’s usually Friday that I take off, but it’s sometimes Monday instead. I’d definitely recommend it.

Perfecting the work/life balance... 4 years ago

I used to work 4 10-hour days and even though it was the night shift, I remember that it was a time when I felt my work/life balance was more ideal. I’d like to go back to this schedule and have Fridays free for personal projects, alone time, and all the things that don’t seem to fit in between work days and weekends.

I might try doing this for a month to see if the experiment works, for it’s possible that by getting an extra day I simply end up working less and playing more, which isn’t really the point. To me, this is an attempt to trick myself into using both my work and personal time more effeciently. If it doesn’t work, then back to the old proven schedule for me.
