visit the spiral jetty

I have a friend out in Utah presently and would really like to go out there to camp with her and see the jetty. I checked on this site: http://virtualglobetrotting.com/map/29348/
and it looks like it was at least visible in June. I hope by the time I get out there it’ll still be something to see.

i’d wanted to do this for qt a while—this time last year, i’d gotten a free travel voucher by giving up my seat and taking a later flight into sf. this year, i and my birthday plans are set to go.

it should be lovely—spiral jetty, arches national park, and the stars will be magnificent.

Robert Smithson’s Great Spiral Jetty of 1970 was submerged and thought to have disappeared for ever. However the changing level of the Great Salt Lake has made the Jetty appear and then sink again. Argument centres around its worth and whether it should be restored, or whether decay or at least surrender to fate is built into the concept from the start.
