I think I mostly fed the neighborhood rodent population. It was also a bad year for tomatoes. My peppers did very well though. We have blackberries growing all over the yard. Very tasty.

Couple tomatoes and cucumbers in a small garden to a few containers of peppers and cherry tomatoes on my upper deck. There was plenty for a mini-harvest and my little plants are still yielding for us. We mix these few veggies within our salads and sauces; all the while sharing with the deer and maybe a bunny or two and, of course, knucklehead squirrels falling into them as they try not to swing on the bird feeders ;).
Will plan bigger next, year. I remember the gardens my dad and I used to sow.

I have cucumbers, yes…
perhaps there will be some “Aunt Bea” pickles ;)
for those too young to know what I am talking about…it is from an old “Andy Griffith” show.

deer just munched the tops and flowers off my veggies, along with a cherry tomato or two…
guess I move them to the deck in containers, and spray smelly deer repellent…
It’s cool to have them jumping the fence into our backyard; they are so beautiful…but they have to stop eatting my veggies and flowers…

perfect for finally planting my veggies:
2 Beefsteak variety tomato plants, 1 Cherry variety tomato plant, 2 Cucumber plants, 4 Banana Peppers,
1 Green Pepper (poor thing looking weak fell in the bushes), 1 Jalapeno Pepper and 1 Watermelon (still needing a home, will take care of that tomorrow.)
so, I didn’t plant them all in the ground, some ended up in containers again this year. Our yard is nice for a subdivision yard, a half an acre, but the sun is in the front yard—our backyard is wooded and just does not get a long enough period of sunshine (without removing trees and that will not happen). Yes, I am a tree hugger ;)
anyway, I committed a huge faux pas by planting 2 tomato plants in the flower garden in front of the pretty white arched fence facing the street :-O along with the cucumbers and they, of course, will climb the fence. I am hoping the way I placed them and the fact that our house is built up on a hill that it will not stick out too badly, but I really don’t care…I planted a small veggie garden this year :) where there is a will there is a way…I might even stick the watermelon in the front garden :-O :-O … remember on a hill nobody will notice except our visitors ;) since we live up on a hill…just joking…but I need to find a place…would be really cool to grow a watermelon. As far as the tomatoes in the fence garden I was planning on planting sunflowers behind the fence to maybe take away from it, thought the birdies would love the seed.
Hopefully they will grow and produce and I can keep the deer from eatting…
I will post some pix when I get them and throughout summer and of course at harvest time ;0)
