I think it would be good for me to eat more fresh fruits and veggies, cut up and cook meat myself, etc. And I think it should save quite a bit of money not to buy pre-prepared, pre-cooked foods. Two birds with one stone!

What does processed food mean to me?
I think that is the first question I need to answer, because different people have different ideas of what processed food is. For example, is bread processed, and does it matter whether it’s a loaf of 100% whole wheat bread or a loaf of Wonder Bread? What about tofu? Frozen veggies? Canned beans? Peanut butter – and what if it’s the all-natural, non-hydrogenated kind? If I bake a cake? Obviously, all of these are “processed” in some way, but none of these are to the extremes of a veggie burger or a microwave dinner or a can of soda.
I think I need to come up with a list of OK foods and not ok foods. In general, I think I want to avoid anything that’s already seasoned or sweetened.
BabySteps08 is lacking motivation today UGG!
Just recently I was reading an article about what processed foods can do to the body, and quite frankly I was disturbed! So I have decided to slowly start cutting myself from my favorite food group “Processed Foods”. This will be difficult as I typically don’t eat anything that is not from a box or bag. I believe Cheese Puffs should be included in everyone’s daily diet and General Mills is a god. But being only 27 and finding myself with an area of odd health problems; high cholesterol, sluggish, high BP, etc, I want to first focus on my eating habits before going to medications.
Today I hope to just find lists or guidance on what I can and can’t eat. I figure that’s a start! Wish me luck and I hope we can support eachother.
I am 28 at 6’3” and weigh 240. About 2 1/2 months ago i put down my cigeretts, started running everyday and started watching what I ate. Now I have set a long term gaol of 200 lbs. and need to tweak my diet. It is easy to say you are going non processed but hard to do. I am goignt o give it a shot, wish me luck.
I need to make this second nature – I want to be healthy and show my kids that it is important too. Lead by example , n’est ce pas?
Recently, I’ve been eating only fruit in the morning before headking off to my daily duties (this saves time because cooking eggs takes a few minutes). This typically consists of 3-4 bananas, an apple, and some citrus fruit. One to Two hours later, I’ll eat high protein foods since I’m trying to gain weight. No longer do I keep bread in my apartment and with the new morning routine, breakfast cereal is gone. When I go to a restaurant (not often), trying to avoid processed food is out the window. You got to live a little. All together, I’ll consider this a success.
Ever since my dad passed away from a heart attack a few months ago, the importance of eating healthier has become more real. Lately, with my busy schedule, I’ve started to eat junk again, and gained a few pounds.
As of now, I’m going to try harder to become more mindful of what I eat—and take a break from the ice cream and pizza I’ve consumed much too frequently over the last week. :P
The first step in this goal was to identify processed foods. It ended up being simpler to just seriously cut down on carbs. I don’t eat anything that comes in a box or wrapped in cellophane. shrug Switched to brown rice and shop the produce section a lot more.
Doesnt seem like much variety by not eating processed food, but I need to make the change. I need some serious help on recipes and what kind of things I should buy. I’m vegetarian and dont eat any meat including seafood, so I dont see myself eating just vegetables and fruit all day every day, what else is there thats not considered processed?
