...especially when at restaurants with friends who are drinking hard stuff and I am drinking a Shirley Temple full of cherries. That’s really the only useful application of this skill.

I hate eating the things, but it’s fun to be able to tie the stems. I wish I could give tips on how to do it, but I think it just takes practice. Oh! Except it really helps to make little nibbles all the way down the stem before you put it in your mouth to tie it – makes it more pliable. I don’t think that’s cheating, and it really helps. ..first tie one with your hands and hide it under your tongue before you announce it, then make your wagers.

No one really likes to watch you fumble around with the cherry stem, especially when you emerge triumphant and the resulting product looks like you ran it through a meat slicer. sexy in the right company though.
