contribute to wikipedia

I think wiki sites such as Wikipedia are a very important aspect of a digital society. While the site is not always correct, it is a great resource to begin study on something.

I would love to be able to share my knowledge and contribute to that. After all, that’s what it’s all about!

I have just set up an account!

I am debating whether to start a new article about the Humus toilet – Hundertwasser, or whether to write an article on something that has already been requested!
We shall see, soon!

Ok. So I took a tour in Wikipedia pages in my native language, and I found, surprisingly, an article about the place were I work! It’s a kind of a landmarke in my city. It’s a very poor article though, needs serious work, both in Arabic and in it’s English version.
So I guess that would be a perfect start! And just in time for the Arabic Wikipedia day :)

But while I gather information for the article, I’ll have to spend sometime teaching myself how to use the editor in Wikipedia. It’s not very hard to use, but no easy either!
I’ll need some training.

I would love to feel that I made some contribution in something as huge and global as Wikipedia.. this encyclopedia is literary the sum of all human knowledge. It would certainly make me feel good to know that I contributed in it. Even if this contribution is by proofing an article that already exists.

First step is defining what subjects I would like to work on.
I’ll surf wikipedia’s pages, and try to decide what subjects attract me the most.

I hope to start small and assist/edit current pages and eventually expand/create new pages in areas of expertise

I’ve finally decided what I want to write about!!
One of my best mates is Jonny, and gradually over the last few months I have learnt a LOT about him!!

At the moment he has been writing his thoughts down a lot, and today he allwoed me to read something, it is pure genious!!
Seriously, the way his mind works is simply astounding!!

He’s gonna make it big, I tell ye! :)

I’d like to learn how to become a Wikipedia contributor and how to determine what to write about? I have seen freelance assignments requesting experienced Wikipedia writers.

I added that he lives in Prestbury, Cheshire, England.

I don’t really get how to upload a photo yet, but I created a new page for the California Route 66 Museum in Victorville, CA.

I couldn’t really figure out the sandbox examples, so I went and copied formats from other listings and pasted them into my page.

I have a passing familiarity with html, but the format… I don’t get it and it’s going to take more concentration and thought than I expected to actually get the thing online.

How come they don’t have easy formatting like Blogger or something? Maybe that would make it too easy??
