Drive from Quito to Ushuaia to Rio De Jenero and back to Quito 11 months ago

I am planning to buy a 4X4 in Quito and go for this road trip. I am thinking about doing this in Oct to mid December of 2009. I am Indian and plan to go on this trip with a friend from Ecuador.

I was looking for suggestions and possible company to caravan along.

Me and Barkley want to drive through central and south america 11 months ago

barkley’s my dog. he’s a 4 month old english chocolate lab. he’s pretty awesome.

anyways, he and i would like to leave los angeles for a little while and travel through central and south america. being an american, and relatively uncertain of the roads, i feel a certain strength in numbers, so i’m looking for someone to come with.

i’d like to stay close to the coast most of the time – i don’t really surf but that’s another dream that i might be able to hook on to this one – and head inland to do some hiking once and a while.

i have no particular timeline for departure or return (although i currently have applications to medical school pending, but the earliest that would start would be august of 2009).

anyone out there interested?

Drive to South America Adventure 12 months ago

Count me in if you want someone to go with you. I am American. Have my own business and have always dreamed of taking time off from work and doing this. Would love to go while still young.

Leaving in December 13 months ago

Five Gringos heading south from Denver in early December, money, vehicles, immunizations and most logistical problems are dealt with. We will be traveling the western coast almost exclusively. If anyone is interested in coming along it will make shipping (you must put your vehicle in a container) around the Darien cheaper.

We will be surfing, mountaineering and living it up.

Drive to South America 14 months ago

I would like to drive to South America, but am looking for someone to go with. I lived in Latin America for about 12 years, Mexico, El Salvador, Paraguay. Am Bi-literate Spanish/English, and am a professional mechanic. I have driven the route from WA State USA to EL Salvador probably a dozen times over the years. That trip usually took me a couple of months. So would like to take a year or so for South America. Don’t kid yourself, these sorts of trips are EXPENSIVE. Shipping the car Panama-Columbia is not cheap. At least $2000 one way. There are far more fees and costs than just the cost of shipping. I have a ‘91 Jeep Cherokee.

RideSouth.org 15 months ago

I’m heading up a charity ride from Portland, Oregon, USA to Tierra del Fuego and back. The goal is to raise a ton of money to help treat childhood diseases. If you want to get involved (riding with us, supporting the charity, etc.) check out RideSouth.org. It’s a work in progress right now, but we’re getting everything up as fast as we can!

Website dedicated to helping you drive to south america 17 months ago

Hello all,
I’ve created a website dedicated to helping you drive to south america. It took me a while, but here it is: http://www.drivetosouthamerica.com

The Links >> Journals section has a good list of sites of other people making similar trips that I found during my research (about a dozen or so). The Photo Journal section details my own journey to Ushuaia.

Good luck!

Drive from San Diego to Brazil 19 months ago

I get out of the Marines May 2009, and as soon as I get out I am planning a trip from San Diego to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, going through all the Central American countries, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay. I will spend about 50 days on the trip, and I’ll be taking a RORO or ferry from Panama to Columbia. Once in Brazil I’m going to ditch my car and fly back. I’m looking for someone to go with. If you pay for your food and plane ticket home (about $1,000) and throw in just $750 towards hotel costs, I’ll pay for everything else, I just need to find someone to travel with. Can’t beat that, a trip through 14 countries for less than 2,500 bucks. However, if someone is willing to throw in more money on the trip, or if more people go, then I’d have more leeway in making the trip longer and doing more things. Let me know if anyone has any interest in coming along. I’ve done extensive research on this trip, so I know what I’m in for, and I’ll be thoroughly prepared in every aspect for this adventure. My email is alanthompson321@yahoo.com, if you’re interested or have questions about my trip, let me know.

Drive to South America 21 months ago

I’m exploring the possibilities. Looking for information to complete the trip. We are planning to leave around the 1st of Oct 2008. If you are interested in going we would like to find a second vehicle for the trip. Does anyone know about the ferry?

Decision time!?! 2 years ago

I can do this. I may even have the car for the trip (it’s one I lent to a friend – 98 Honda Civic with tons of miles but runs great and gets great gas mileage). I might stay awhile (somewhere) and teach English. I’ve been to Ecuador – learnig Spanish is easy if you take some time to do it – probably in Guatamala because it’s cheraper there. I spent 2 months in SE Asia backpacking earliere this year. What a blast! Anyway, I will probably have to make a decision about this within a month or so. Ah, wouldn’t it be glorious!! If you are interested go to Barnes and Noble or Borders and look at their Lonely Planet guides… South America On a Shoestring, or the same for Central America. It’s really cheap compared to the US and trip to Europe, etc. Leave a comment or email me at rektunerman at hotmail. I’ll try to get a pic up soon. Blessings my brothers and sisters!
