I have three children and I’ve saved a few outfits from each stage/age for making their quilts. I’m not doing it just from their first year clothing, but from their clothing probably until three. I just read on another website from a lady that makes these, she charges six hundred dollars for a twin size quilt. It was beautiful, but I can make it for free! I’m not a quilter, but by God, I’m a do it myselfer for that kind of dough! She gave good insight, that to make a twin size quilt, you’ll need at least forty pieces of clean clothing, and I was hoping to make a full size! I may need to wait until the kids are five to make sure I have enough for each!
someday… i will make a quilt out of my baby’s clothes. only thing stopping me is that i don’t know how to make a quilt.
I saved my son’s “special” baby clothes..the ones with memories to make a baby quilt for his first child..Fortunately, it was a boy and the quilt turned out adorable! The most difficult part was combining cottens and knits..which I would not recommend. Use a simple pattern such as a 9 patch and try to coordinate colors as much as possible. Some things I appliqued on such as his little hat he wore home from the hospital. Of course most of the colors were in blues, so I used a blue and yellow back piece that had moons and stars on it. I used a border of a bight yellow and another of a bright blue to “frame” it. I love to see it in Sean’s crib because the fabrics bring back many memories of when his daddy was a little boy! I’m planning now on working on one for my daughter. It was well worth it and I am so glad I had saved these things.
I am soo excited about doint this. I have a 2 year old and a newborn so this will be awesome !
I just now found links on the right side of this website! It would of bitten me if I had gotten any closer,...jeeeeesh!
