my dad is a great backyard mechanic. he was the kind of dad who all the kids in the neighborhood would bring their cars over for him to fix. so i asked dad if he could change the brakes on my car. his love language is acts of kindness so he was happy to.
by the time i made it over to the house to help he was already done with the car. so my wife and i had a cup of coffee with mom and dad. not even 10 minutes later my brother pulls in with his jeep hooked up to a tow truck. so dad was out the door and back in the garage, not to be seen for a least an hour.
meanwhile, i didn’t want a good cup of coffee to go to waste, so jen and i talked with my mom and sister-in-law while dad and my brother worked on his jeep. the conversation was fun and real. talked about our kids, how strange it is to get older, we laughed about how everyone in restaurant looks younger then us and were only in our early 30’s. talked about growing up, current affairs and such.
these moments don’t happen enough. i’m still trying to figure out how to slow life down to have more of these short bits of time with people i love.
