How to go on a yoga retreat
How I did it: I guess I had hopes and expectations as to what I was going to be doing. I thought I would get up and begin a discliplined yoga practice. I mean after all I flew 3,000 miles from east to west coast and drove up from Sacramento to Nevada City to get to "The Expanding Light Retreat". I did a four-day stint. I barely practiced any yoga.
But I did meet a lot of super interesting people. I was "attacked" by three baby fawns on my way back from the store as they were intent on getting my ice cream cone. I ate a lot of healthy food. I hiked the area and spent some time looking at the lotus pond. I helped someone who was grieving to spread her loved one's ashes. I went swimming with a bunch of the other guest members at this beautiful out-of-the-way lake.
I smelled the sagebrush and red wood pine my entire time there. I basked in the sun. I played a Haronium for the first time ever. Didn't practice much in the way of yoga but it was an experience.
Lessons & tips:
- Be open to experience, it might be more important then practicing yoga
- That is *NOT* me in the picture. Some amazing yogi person I found on flickr. Hope she doesn't mind me borrowing it for show.

I’m looking at or dreaming of going for a yoga retreat in Thailand some day. I would love to be by the sea and doing yoga.
I want to get ‘better’ at yoga first though-not in terms of the poses I can do (I know-don’t compare, don’t judge) but just in terms of being able to survive a daily practice while I’m there. I don’t want to end up too exhausted to enjoy the place and the practice.
CookieRa Hmmm . . What to do, what to do . . .
I will go on one. I’d really like to but think i should improve my practice a bit more so I don’t feel like I’m wasting the experience with beginners yoga

I’ve been practicing yoga on my own for a few years now, and after going on a short meditation retreat, I really want to go on a yoga retreat someday. I think it would be a lot of fun & refreshing. Even though I’m not as flexible as I’d like to be :)
loriio is starting #4-organize my house
I just got back into yoga after a brief hiatus, but i’m hoping sometime in 2009 i can find one not too far from home.
I have been practicing vinyasa for 3 years & I love it. I think it would be so much fun to go on a retreat with my friends & do yoga! Maybe costa rica?
I am saving to do this Jivamukti Yoga Retreat in May and I am also saving to do this Anatomy & Physiology training starting in April.
It seems like I’ll be staying on shopping sabbatical for a while yet ;)
....trying to fit things in, in silly amounts of time.
i haven’t had a holiday for over 2 years and I’m exhausted. so I bailed on the retreat day i paid for and was meant to happen y’day, and slept all day. and FELT FAB!!!!!
and today, i slept again. I just need this!
Today, I found some seated poses that all look completely doable. I didn’t check, but I think I should see if there are any DVDs that focus on seated and reclining poses. Considering the wide variety of yoga videos/DVDs out there, I should be able to find something I can do.
