How to move to Amsterdam
How I did it: I went on GreatAupair.com. Now I'm with a nice family making money, friends and learning Dutch. It was so easy! ;)
Of course to be an Au Pair you should like kids. And know that kids here are so much different than like, American kids.
Lessons & tips: Dutch people can seem rude, but it's just that they are brutally honest.

My best friend and I have decided to move to Amsterdam. We have a projected leave date of January 1, so there isn’t a lot of time to figure everything out. So far we have about $10,000 put away for the move. We have found a lot of information in a broad sense, but are still in the beginning stages of securing work, a place to stay etc. If anyone has any advice or ideas we would love to hear them. We are male, 33 / 35 and just looking to start life completely anew in a different part of the world. My friend smokes marijuana religously, but i could take it or leave it. It is definitely NOT why we are moving but it will be nice for my friend to be able to legally smoke the green. If anyone has had experience moving there pla=ease share your trials and tribulations! We are very excited about moving and look forward to any feedback.

Everytime I go to Europe, I can’t resist visiting this beautiful city! I’ve stayed in hotels and rented apartments all over Amsterdam, and guess what…it’s all beautiful!! Taking in the proud Dutch culture while strolling the canal streets is such a relaxing activity for me. I’ve managed to spend about 1 month of time there in all my travels thusfar, and I’m homesick. It’s been nearly a year since I’ve last smoked a joint at Barney’s or the Bulldog(s). My mind is getting restless. Random memories of stoned marches to get french fries with ketchup and mayo drift into my thoughts a few times a week. I’ve seen the Anne Frank museum like 3 times, but I swear I could do it like 10 more..no problem! I’ve only had the Heineken Experience once, and that doesn’t feel like enough. Joselito’s bread dip…just one bowl to get me by ;)I’m just kidding!
The urge to ride a bike thru vondelpark is getting harder to resist though. I need to go back to Amsterdam, and stay there a while this time. Trying to live there seems to be the next step. I actually don’t want the tourist experience this time round. I want to immerse myself into the everyday life of the locals. I’m in love!! I AMSTERDAM…you know what I mean if you’ve been there.
If you are just out of high school, it’s not likely you’ll find a job in Amsterdam. Sorry.
You need an education. My advice is to go to school for something you REALLY want to do. Learn how to love your life the way it is. When you get to that point, anything can happen.
I’ve spent the last 5 years going to school to be an architect. I’ve just landed a job with a firm in Amsterdam. They are taking care of all the residence papers for me. The pay is terrible, but I’m going to make it happen regardless. I leave August 18.
You can move, you will enjoy, you can have fun here.
You’ll never really enter their life entirely, but once you accept this limit, no other place on earth is like Amsterdam. You’ll have to struggle to find a room, to understand the language (yes, everybody speaks English except for my neighbors, so I don’t understand a word of their shouts and complaints :) ). Amazing place to be, in any sense.

At some point in my life, I’d like to live in Amsterdam. I love that city. It makes me feel right.
