I had already mastered ASP so JSP doesn’t seem so bad.
There are a few steps here:
After dealing with things for about a year and a half in our CMS at work that’s all written in JSP, I’m starting to be able to reach the point where I can write some of my own little scripty-bits to accomplish some extra tasks.
Huzzah! I’ve chatted wiht my project team and we are no longer pursuing the JPS line of things which is a great relief. We will be using ruby on rails to develop the website instead which I think is much groovier and much less work for me.
You should check out RoR!

Having thought about this some more I’m not convinced that I want to learn JSP. I think PHP is a better language for most things, on account of the fact that it is easier to learn, and accessible to more programmers. I may still have to learn JSP if this project that I’m going to work on uses it, but first I’m going to find out if they have any good reason for using it.
I need to learn JSP and JMF (Java Media Framework) for some work that I would like to do at the beginning of next year. Hopefully I will be enthusiastic enough to think about it before I have to go.
