I need to find out how much a GPS usually goes for, and possibly buy one… I’m a little skittish about buying one just to find geocaches (I can’t really think of anything else that I’d use it for right now…), but I also really want to find a geocache! The so-called GPS on my BlackBerry sucks.

samIam sent a message in a bottle!
One day a few weeks ago I felt in a very productive, adventurous mood, and I invited a friend to go along with me. Of course, he was completely baffled, because I just asked him if he’d like to help me find a treasure c: but after I picked him up and showed him the papers I had printed off, he started to get into it as much as me. Unfortunately, we went to 4 different prospective sites and didn’t find a single thing :\ Might be because I don’t actually have a GPS, but I’ve heard of a lot of people who have found them without one… it didn’t help that I really had no clue what I was looking for. I want to go out again sometime, but it’s freezing outside. :c Better luck next time.

Was worth it. :) One year of searching, and with only a TINY hint from my more experienced boyfriend and cache-sniffing dog :). Of course, then I realized I forgot my “trinket to leave” in my car a half mile away. Sigh. So instead of taking a trinket from the cache, I took pictures instead.

This was my very first geocache. In the morning I just learnt what geocaching is and could not wait till the afternoon to get out of my office to look for my first “treasure”. Together with my wife we arrived at the site quite late, it was almost dark, and everything covered with 4 inches of snow. So it was not that completely easy, but my wife found it after all. The box was frozen so it took us a bit time to open it. Great feeling, this really made our day.

... by geocaching. Four hours ago I had no idea that something like this exists. Now I cannot wait till my work is over and I can go out and look for my first geocache. I already signed-up at www.geocaching.com and found that there is like 12 geocaches very close to where I live … I would like to find them all !!!

We found it without a GPSr! I found a description of roughly where it was on a site and showed it to my brother who said “I know exactly where that is!”. We went looking for it this morning and there it was!
So now I want to seek it out a second time, with the aforementioned fella, Pete and his GPSr. I’m curious to see if the co-ordinates given on the site really match the place we found it!

And he’s been extolling the fun to be found in Geocaching to me. So I found a website listing four Geocaches within 3 miles of home and I hope to go Geocaching with him soon!
