hitchhike across canada

This is something we have to be sure of. Must also take in many considerations. I am planning to start in Vancouver and sticking on highway one starting Mid-July. I need to be back in Edmonton in September for my last semester of school. Facebook me if anyone wants to team up.

.... Approximately, from Vancouver to Halifax and back again. We didn’t make it to Halifax, but did do the Cape Breton Island loop, and visit every province except Newfoundland. We started in Canmore, Alberta, and ended in Kamloops, BC, first making a stop in Vancouver. The goal was to dip our hands in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
I traveled with my friend and her dog, a blue eyed rottweiler/husky cross. Our most dangerous experience was driving with a man who was probably too old to still have his license. Going slower is not necessarily safer, especially if you’re weaving all over the road!
Most people we met were so helpful and generous. We were often fed, and many times we spent the night at people’s homes, including 2 nights at a B&B on the Gaspe Penninsula. At the least, people just silently drove us to the next city. One gentleman picked us up in Quebec and traveled with us through New Brunswick, P.E.I. and Nova Scotia.
It took us a little more than a month, and probably cost us less than $500, and that just for food. We never once payed for a place to stay, or a ride. (Except for the subway in Toronto. This is the only place we didn’t have a problem getting the dog on transit.)
We slept in a church yard in Toronto (and an artist’s loft), a parkade in Fredricton, on the porch of a deserted summer cabin in Parsboro, NS, on the floor in a public washroom in a park on the Cabot Trail (NS), on the beach at Perry’s Point in Quebec, in the sleeper bunk in big rigs, on a deserted boxcar in Ontario, and in the backseats of people’s cars.
I believe that Canada is a fantistic country, if only because 2 young girls can hitchhike from one end to the other, and have n o harm come to them.
