Katrinia17Change of Plans

I’m making a change in plans here in two ways.

1. I’m starting this over for one and I’m only checking off the books that I’ve read since I started this challenge. The reason for this is that there are many books that I’m confusing with others (mostly newbery honor books) and there are some in which I can’t remember if I read it, it was read to me or I just watched the movie. Also, I want to re-read and re-experience these books.

2. I’m adding to this list the Caldecott books. I realized that many of these books I’ve never read yet alone heard of. This shocks the crap out of me, especially since I have always wanted to be a childrens writer and illustrator.

So, I’ll be making a plan of how many books I want to read for the year and I will also be putting up the list (which is actually a poster for the 2012 year that I was able to download for free!). 5 months ago

Katrinia17Rereading Some

I’ve realized that some of these titles have become such staples in our American Lititure that I can’t even remember which ones I’ve read, heard, watched the movie too or had part of it read to me (sometimes sub teachers would start a book and it never got finished.). So due to this I’m rereading some of these books and I really don’t mind at all since many of them I loved.

I started reading From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konigsburg to my kids since I’ve had the book for ages and couldn’t get any of them to read it. 3 chapters in and one child decides she’s in love with the book and finishes it off on her own. While she was reading it I grabbed her school library book, The Wheel on the School by Meindert DeJong, and I feel in love with it! I now remember why I so badly wanted to write children’s books and have become inspired again. My daughter who thought it was boring gave it another try and can’t seem to put it down.

Before she brought home The Wheel on the School, she had brought home Dear Mr. Henshaw by Beverly Cleary which sorry to say I had heard of it and thought I read it but had not. Even more sorry to say that I didn’t really care for it at all. I thought maybe it was due to me having “grown up” so much but I’m wrong because I did like the other 2 books mentioned above and also read Eragon this week too. Plus, my daughter finished it and she too didn’t like it. What a bummer because I grew up on Cleary’s books and love them and haven’t been able to get my kids to read them. I think this just set it in their mind that her books shouldn’t be read.

My daughter also brought home Sounder last week but I didn’t get my hands on it. It did though make me think that maybe I haven’t read that one yet also. I think some of these books are going to be hard to get my hands on but I’m looking forward to finding some new reads and reading some of my old favorites. 2 years ago
