get tested for STDs

Got tested again 2 months ago; still negative for everything.

I hesitated to even put a “goal” this personal on an extension of my internet ramblings. However, it is precisely this inability to talk about these issues that keep people from being sexually healthy. Growing up my best friend was HIV positive (from a blood transfusion at birth). Later my uncle died from AIDS before I had the chance to meet him. Both of my parents, one of my closest friends, and my next door neighbor all have Hepatitis C. Therefore, I am no stranger to the scary and unsettling reality of sexually transmitted infections.

After watching my dad go through the Pegasys treatments a few years ago I started to worry about my own health. I’ve tried to be careful and responsible. But I recognize that people lie about their sexual problems. I’d been tested back in 2004 for Hep C, when I had surgery. But life has continued on over the last 4 years and I really felt that it was time to ease my troubled mind over this issue.

Last week I finally went to the doctor and got tested for everything. While I’m not particularly worried about the results, I’m glad to have this task over with, in fact, I felt relieved almost immediately upon leaving the office. Sometimes the pain of not knowing outweighs the possibility of frightening consequences.

I get woozy even thinking about needles (yup, right now too), but I want to get this done one day.

It was really scary, not knowing what the test results would be. I had to wait 10 days before I could find out the results, however I got the results today and I phoned in and they told me I was completely clean. :] I don’t know what I’d do with myself if I had anything and more so what I would say to my friends and family about it.

I’m not in an relationship and I haven’t been for quite some time, though I knew I had to get tested. I did some stupid things last year and I just can’t believe I put it off for so long.

I’m just so happy that I’m clean and I’m going to make sure I stay that way.

It’s the right thing to do. Even though I’m not in a sexual relationship (or any relationship whatsoever, sadly), it is very important. I need to see a doctor first, so she can say for what I’m being tested and everything, so I don’t think I’ll do it this week.

this is so so so important. if you’re sexually active you should really get this done. also, if you’re a chick, get the HPV vaccine. i wish less people were less afraid of bad news and would just do it.

Def. worth the peace of mind.

Just waiting for results. Should take four days.

I am so nervous. I can’t wait to mark this as DONE!
