This was the most incredible trip I’ve taken in at least ten years, hands down. We canoed and fished and hiked like crazy! i can’t say enough about how awesome this trip was. I wish I could go back out again next weekend!

We are officially on vacation, and now all we have to do is get everything together so we can go! Here’s the to-do list:
Buy equipment-check
Clean out the van-check
Buy groceries
Fishing licenses
Pack
Drive to campsite
Unpack
Relax!

My husband wants to go canoeing and fishing while we are there; I would like to go hiking as well. The Shades is 17 miles southwest of Crawfordsville, so it’s not even very far from where we live. I am so excited! I haven’t been camping in years. I am looking forward to roughing it, sitting around a campfire, roasting hot dogs, marshmallows, snuggling up with my sweetie under the stars. I can’t wait!

DH and I are going camping by ourselves (hallelujah! no kids!) in July. I can’t wait….

we used to do this all the time when I was a kid. We’d go on little weekend trips to Potato Creek with just mom and dad and my sister and brother, and bigger trips to Turkey Run, Shakamak and McCormick’s Creek with the grandparents and aunts and uncles in along for the ride. When we went to Sleeping Bear Dunes and later on, the Black Hills and the Smokies, we always camped. No hotels for this family. We didn’t even believe in RVs. For us, it was tents or nothin’. The most unrustic we got was one year when we went to a Boy Scout camp with other families who were fellow members of the People of Praise. That year , we stayed in cabins.
