Going to take a while
I’m actually gunning to run a 4 minute mile, but I need to hit this milestone first. I used to run track and cross country in highschool, but now that I’m sitting in front of a computer all day long 5 days a week, I’m grossly out of shape! Setting this goal will help get me off my a$$!
So working on short distance should be interesting. The only recorded short distance time I have right now is a 5K I ran in about 19:50 minutes, which works out to about a 6.38 min mile. I’ll have to start timing myself on a mile and I’ll probably need access to a track to meet this goal.
only been running for about 18 months, and not for speed, so this would be a great achievement

Ugh my a 9 minute mile will never cut it. Even a 7 minute mile is slow, but the fastest girls on the hs XC team can only run a 7 minute mile. I wish I had more time to dedicate to running and join XC (but I don’t have the time and I’ll be in university in a year)
Jordan Hassay (the pack leader) she’s my inspiration, she was only 16 when she ran the US Olympic Trials.
I last tried on 8/11/2008 and did 5:11:

Since then I’ve been marathon training. Did the marathon in 2:57:18, and now I’m going to switch gears to the mile.
When I was still young (32), I got down to a 5:09 mile once, but I was only training for longer recreational running races at the time, and just hopped in on the 1-mile race occasionally at the local Community College track Thursday evening all-comer’s races. Now I’m 53, and have spent the past year bicycling hard and only toying with running, but I’ve got it in my head to see how close I can get to the 5 minute mile. I don’t actually think I’ll get there due to my age, but I’m going to see how close I can come to it! I ran a 5:37 last night on an the indoor track here at WSU, and that was 4 seconds faster than a couple of weeks ago, so I’m going in the right direction for now. I’ve only been running for about 2 months so far this season, after biking all summer. I tried running last fall and winter also, but had to stop running in January due to some unknown mysterious ailment that caused my leg muscles and sciatic/piriformis nerves to get sore and stay sore to the point I could hardly walk. I started talking vitamin D and B-100 supplements in the spring and gave up running all summer, and now I seem to be back on track. So we’ll see if I can maintain my running and even make some progress going into January/February this year. Good luck to everyone else who shares this idea of breaking the 5-minute barrier. – Cecil
Completed a half marathon last week, this has always been something I have wanted to do. Best mile time is probably around 5:40, but that is from years ago when I wasn’t in as good of shape as I am now. Today my time would probably be 5:20, although I haven’t run a timed mile in 5 years.
