Jacob Tractenberg developed a system of speed mathematics whilst he was a prisoner of war under the Nazis. He concentrated on maths problems that could be done in his head quickly & without paper or pens (necessity) to avoid thinking of the horrors around him and to which he was subjected to.

Overall the man is awe inspiring.

I have his book on Speed Mathematics and I really need to pull my finger out and start working on it. I used to score highly in Math comps as a child but as I grew I somehow grew out of maths- must have been puberty!!!!

The benefit of Trachtenbergs Math System is that it increases ability to visualise, concentrate and in itself it’s really more a method of meditation than a `thinking’ pursuit…..
