Make sure my children know how much I love them

With my youngest son… about things that really matter~

Today I texted the youngest to have a good afternoon…. and that I love him. The other day he was telling me that when at work, he’s on his feet the whole time and it’s tiring. So I thought a a break in that activity might be welcome…

I told my 4 year old grandaughter how artistically talented she is today. She really is. I made sure to tell her that it’s recognized. She got this look on her face that made me think she integrated it into her self concept. I want to make sure I connect from now on. I notice this on people that I admire as teachers so I’m trying.

Sent more cArds today and added some relatives youngsters. Really fun to write. I sat at a table at Wally Amos’s cookie shop and wrote them while inhaling the scent of baking cookies and eating some. The kids got a kick from the first batch. Used the new Hawaii stamps.

I’m going to write notes to the children in my life from imaginary people or fairies or something and mail them. Kids love getting mail.

I’m going to plan some wondrous afterschool activities for my grandkids. School is tiring and they come home in need of comfort. Mornings are he’ll. Gotta reset the whole system.

My daughter told me that on Thursday and Friday she and her coworkers are going to go catch butterflies with nets and put them in bandaide boxes. No worry, they’ll propogate and release more. Fun! Glad that she is happy. Oldest daughter received her college acceptance letter today. Yay her. Grandkids say I’m a nice grama. Daughter and her boyfriend got me a car this week. Just on more daughter to connect with and balance achieved.

I’m writing a grant for a family reading readiness project. I got to spend the day at the library yesterday, gathering resources and then pulling books for the toddler program I’m working with. I really appreciated that the librarians at my local library had purchased books that I needed and wanted to share with children. I brought them home and sat with the grandkids and read many. Haven’t done that for a while. When my kids were young, we were frequent library users. It gave so much to their lives and mine. I just love childrens books art. I’ve loved libraries my whole life. I wish my kids loved them as much as me, but I don’t think they do except my middle daughter, who works at the library at her university and works in a book store. Maybe the grandkids will love them if I make it part of our routine again. They do love books.

I was able to get a small video of my grandson dancing while we sang him happy birthday. Now I just have to figure out how to get it off my phone. I showed it to my friend on the bus. The day before when we were riding into work and I asked her how her Valentines day went, she told me that her mom had passed away that day. She was going to work with blinders on and hoping that the routine would stop her from hurting. So the next day I showed her the video and it helped when I wasn’t able to say anything useful. Had a good week with my daughter and some unexpected hugs. Needed them.

My grandson’s 6th birthday in on Tuesday. I get to watch the kids Sunday night so I want to have a celebration for him. Small kind. I remember being 6 so I know that he’ll remember this birthday and I want to make it special.
