I know Dutch (it’s my native language) and I know English, but I’ve recently discovered that a third language would be convenient. Why German? It’s related to Dutch as Spanish is related to French or Italian. The German border is not too far from my place and there’s a lot of interesting reading to do in German. My BF and I both love Metal kinds of music and Germany is THE country for Metal.
Wish I saved my German textbooks from highschool. Oh well…

I tried to learn Chinese a few years ago, but only lasted about 3 months (private lessons once a week) before giving up becuase I just wasn’t motivated. For a while I let this goal just sit… but then I met my (now) fiancee, who is Mexican, and so I’ve been learning Spanish for over a year. It is going very well even though we never speak it at home together. I have been taking classes and travelled to Mexico for 2 months last year also, which helped a lot. I plan to pursue this to fluency, and then attack a 4th language!

Big heave-ho
French it is, it just seems the most practical, after having taken some semesters in college ontop of the Spanish degree. I’ve been researching language schools, and I’m thinking 12 weeks in Montreal. But maybe less? 8? I dont know. Wise words, anyone?

Not sure what to learn, I’m still working on German. But I’m thinking at the end of next year maybe I’ll start another language. I’ve tried Irish and Hebrew and don’t want to try those again. I’ve also taken classes for French and Spanish and I may go with one of those. Or Japanese. Hmmmmmmm….....

awindow is waiting...for a lot of things.
I’m about to head off to camp for two weeks, but after that I’m getting down to business on this goal. I’ve been procrastinating because I don’t know what third language I want to learn. I keep going back and forth between Spanish and Arabic, with occasional lapses of interest in others, such as Hindi and Mandarin. The result of this is that I don’t learn any of them. So I’ve decided to put an end to it: some basic knowledge of Spanish won’t be too difficult to obtain and will come in handy. I’m going to split this up into four smaller goals: learn to conjugate regular Spanish verbs, learn to conjugate very common irregular Spanish verbs, learn 100 Spanish words/phrases, and learn to count in Spanish. I’m not saying I’ll be fluent. I’m not saying I’ll study it in college. I’m just saying I’m going to do something.

bebopdobop trying to figure out what to do next...
I’m an English speaker who after years of study and years of living in Mexico has learned to speak Spanish as well.
I would now like to expand my repertoire and learn to speak French.

Studying Spanish on my own is going fairly well. I’ve learned the fundamentals of pronunciation, some basic sentence structure, how to conjugate regular -ar verbs, and some simple traveler’s vocabulary. It’s slow-going, definitely, because I’m bad about practicing everyday. But I plan to stick with this and maybe take a couple classes in college.
